Our Story
The Origin of Lighthouse Baptist
In the summer of 2002, 12 families had spent much time in prayer and discussion concerning starting a church in the Fayetteville/Hope Mills, NC area that would return to historic Baptistic roots of teaching and preaching sound Biblical Doctrine through expositional teaching and preaching. These 12 families had noticed that many churches in the area that once called themselves "Baptist" were actually forsaking what it means to be a "Baptist" in beliefs and doctrine. They were growing weary of seeing churches departing from Biblical doctrine and embracing the charismatic, prosperity gospel and emergent church movement. On that first Sunday of August 18, 2002, 28 people met in the home of Douglas and Rhonda Stephens to begin what is now called Lighthouse Baptist Church. From 2002-2005, the church met in a storefront in the 700 area of Hope Mills Road in Fayetteville. In August 2005, the congregation was able to purchase the property that once was Christ Episcopal Church and make it their new church home. For the first two years, the teaching/preaching was led by the church elders, laymen, or visiting preachers until they could be financially stable enough to call a full-time Pastor. In 2005, the church voted to call Pastor Raymond Hall as their first-time pastor. In 2006, Pastor Hall resigned to accept the pastorate at Victory Baptist Church in Cocoa, Florida. After an extensive Pastoral search, in the fall of 2006, the congregation called Pastor David Gregorin to be their full-time Pastor. Pastor Gregorin continued to teach and preach through the Scriptures and had seen some changes with the addition of the church website, and the children's program changed from Patch the Pirate to Awana. In the fall of 2012, Pastor Gregorin resigned to accept a position with the US Postal Service. In December of 2012, the congregation of Lighthouse Baptist Church called our current Pastor, Pastor Dwayne Smith to be our Pastor & Shepherd. Since 2012, we have seen many changes and additions. We have gone through a renovation in our Sanctuary, seen the expansion of our Missions program in which we are currently supporting 7 missionaries and have also sent members on missions trips, paid off the mortgage of the property, the purchased new hymnals, the building of a new Children's playground and the renewing of our biggest event of the year, Vacation Bible School which is held in June of every year. Due to being in a military town, we have seen many come and go, but our Lord continues to bless us with new families that have a desire to see Lighthouse Baptist Church continue on the path of historic Baptist beliefs of Biblical teaching and preaching. As the old Gospel hymn says, "To God be the Glory, Great things He has Done.
